Fumiya Hayakawa is a Japanese director, producer, and editor, currently based in Tokyo. His short documentary Nana was an official selection for JAPAN CUTS 2020 and the winner of the Judge's Choice on Faces of Austin 2020, as a community screening at SXSW Film Festival.

He has produced films that have screened in major festivals, including the Telluride Film Festival, New Orleans Film Festival, and BOGOSHORTS. This year, he is presenting “Los Mosquitos” at SXSW, a film he co-wrote and produced.

His films tell stories about humanity involving relationships crossing multiple cultures and races. He’s developing his first narrative feature project.

He received a BA in political sciences from Waseda University and a MFA in Film & Media Production at The University of Texas at Austin.

埼玉県出身。早稲田大学政治経済学部卒業後、テキサス大学オースティン校で映像制作の美術学修士を取得。ドキュメンタリーとフィクション両方の監督、脚本、プロデュース、編集を行う。

監督した短編ドキュメンタリー『Nana』(2020)はサウス・バイ・サウスウエスト(SXSW)映画祭のFaces of Austinにて審査員賞を受賞。ジャパンカッツの公式上映作品に選出。

プロデュースした短編映画『Comadre』はテルライド映画祭に選出、全米監督協会学生賞を受賞。また、プロデュース、共同脚本を務めた『Los Mosquitos』はSXSW映画祭に選出、ゴッサム・インディペンデント映画賞学生短編部門に選出。
